Sag Harbor School District’s Pierson High School seniors Thomas Brooks and Isabella DiRussa were honored by the New York State Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance as winners of the Suffolk Zone Student Leadership Award at a recent ceremony.

Brooks and DiRussa, along with high school seniors from across the county, were selected based upon their excellence in physical education, leadership ability, and willingness to help others.

A three-sport athlete, Brooks is a member of the baseball team and serves as captain for both the basketball and golf teams. He is an All-League and All-County golfer and holds the title of Scholar-Athlete for golf. Well-rounded in academics and extracurricular activities, he is a member of the Pierson High School National Honor Society and math league, volunteers his time as an assistant coach for Sag Harbor Little League and the Sag Harbor Youth Hoop, and also lends his time to the nonprofit organization Hamptons Humanity.

DiRussa is a five-year varsity soccer player and serves as captain of her team. She is also a member of the varsity softball and basketball teams, holds the titles of All-League and All-Conference Academic in soccer, and is a Scholar-Athlete. Apart from excelling on the field, she is a member of the Pierson High School National Honor Society, iBuddies mentoring program and math league. She also volunteers as an assistant coach for the Sag Harbor Youth Soccer Club.
