Sag Harbor Union Free School District has the following Buildings and Grounds supervisory position available:

School Maintenance Crew Leader - Full-Time
Salary will be commensurate on experience


Under general supervision, the employee performs responsible supervisory duties in the operation, maintenance, and repair of the buildings and grounds of a large school district. The employee supervises directly and through subordinate supervisors a number of skilled and semi-skilled employees assigned to maintain and repair the school district's buildings, equipment, and other properties. Responsibility is included for scheduling shifts and vacations, and preparing and controlling the annual budget. Supervisory responsibilities include evaluation of personnel, monitoring performance, and recommending programs or procedures to develop effective working skills. Work is performed under the supervision of the School Business Administrator who reviews work through conferences and inspections of projects while in progress and upon completion. Employee will be assigned related work as required.


Plans out and oversees the work of maintenance people, carpenters, plumbers, electricians and others engaged in repairing and maintaining buildings, grounds, and equipment in the school district.

  • Assists the School Business Administrator in overseeing and coordinating timelines for capital construction projects planned for the districts athletic fields, bus lot, and three school buildings with staff and school administrators.
  • Coordinates the work of outside contractors in conjunction with the school district's own maintenance mechanics and groundkeepers.
  • Reviews all maintenance and repair work that is in progress to insure adherence to New York State Education Facilities' Planning Department standards and time schedules.
  • Makes frequent inspections of school buildings to determine the current and future maintenance needs of floors, walls, windows, doors, desks, and boilers.
  • Assists in the New York State Education Department's mandate for the completion of a Building Condition Survey. Estimates time and material costs to order sufficient supplies and equipment for each project. Prepare requisitions for lumber, paint, plumbing and lighting fixtures and other supplies needed to complete a maintenance project.
  • Maintains time, supply and equipment records and prepares cost and progress reports on current projects.
  • Assists the School Business Administrator/Purchasing Agent with contacting outside contractors for quotes and assists in the bidding process for repair, maintenance, and capital construction work.
  • Will be invited as a guest member of the school district's Education Facilities' Planning Committee (EFPC) and will periodically help the School Business Administrator/Committee Chairperson to gather information for her presentations.
  • Assists the School Business Administrator with the development of the general fund budget for districtwide maintenance and repairs.
  • Responsibility also includes the scheduling of shifts and vacations for employees, and signing off on timesheets and request for leave forms.


Graduation from a standard senior high school and four years of experience in the performance and/or supervision of a variety of buildings and grounds maintenance activities.
