Members of the Sag Harbor Class of 2022 were honored at an eighth-grade moving up ceremony on June 20 at Pierson Middle/High School.

During the ceremony, 79 students received graduation certificates and select scholars received special recognitions for outstanding effort in their classes. The ceremony also featured student speakers Reed Kelsey, Abigail Corish and Luke Louchheim, who spoke about the past, present and future, respectively.

Recalling the past, Reed commended the school’s teachers. “They give us the gift of a solid foundation that we can use in high school and beyond.”

In talking about the present, Abigail offered, “Forget about the past and live for today. We should celebrate the now.”

Looking to the future, Luke said, “The future is exciting because you never know what will happen next. Live in the moment and take it one wave at a time.”

Additionally, Pierson High School’s Class of 2018 valedictorian Leigh Hatfield addressed the class and shared valuable insight about life in the high school. “You are capable of amazing feats,” she said. “Take responsibility, challenge yourself and always ask questions.”

Pierson Middle School Assistant Principal Brittany Carriero left the students with words of inspiration. She said, “You have all demonstrated resilience. I am proud of you for this. You can now conquer the world.”
