Pierson students travel to the Met Opera
Students enrolled in Pierson High School’s International Baccalaureate Spanish and ENL classes recently traveled to Manhattan to view the final dress rehearsal of “Ainadamar” at the Metropolitan Opera House at Lincoln Center. The class trip was made possible through the Met Opera’s “Access Opera” program, which provides school groups the opportunity to watch final run-through rehearsals before opening night.
“For many of the students this was their first experience attending an event of this type,” Pierson IB Spanish teacher Penelope Boerum said. 39 students attended the field trip.
The opera performance of “Ainadamar” tells the story of playwright, poet and theatre director Federico García Lorca (1898-1936) and his muse. In their IB Spanish classes, the students learned about his life and saw clips from previous productions to become familiar with the story.
