Sag Harbor Elementary students work to ‘Change Someone’s Smile’
Sag Harbor Elementary School students were recently challenged by school counselor Michelle
Grant to complete the “Change Someone’s Smile” service-learning project. The challenge
included raising money, packaging gift bags and partnering with the Sag Harbor Food Pantry.
All grades were encouraged to complete chores at home, or recycle bottles, to earn change.
Through their hard work, the students raised more than $500 which was used to purchase
toothbrushes and toothpaste. Hundreds of dental hygiene items were bagged by the students and
brought to the Sag Harbor Food Pantry for local families to take this holiday season.
Together, the students learned the value of work, saving money and helping their neighbors. This
engaging project that not only gave the gift of a healthy smile but encouraged community and
friendship.
