Sag Harbor Residents Share Opinions on Bond Implementation Project Designs

As promised, prior to the passing of the Sag Harbor School District bond referendum on Nov. 13, 2013, community residents had an opportunity to once again review the plans, ask questions and express their opinions about the proposed scope of work during individual workshops held at the sites where the projects will take place.

On Wednesday, Jan. 8, starting at 9 a.m., parents, residents, district administrators and staff members met on site in a series of seven workshops, each approximately 45 minutes to one hour long. During the workshops, those in attendance met at the Sag Harbor Elementary School gymnasium, SHES (Hampton) parking lot, Pierson (Jermain) parking lot, Pierson auditorium, Pierson basement (shop/technology), Pierson kitchen and Pierson athletic field (turf field and two-lane walking track). During each workshop, members of the community provided valuable input that will be considered by the Board of Education and administration as construction and renovation plans are finalized.

Later that day, Interim Superintendent of Schools Dr. Carl Bonuso and members of the Educational Facilities Planning Committee (EFPC) met with residents who were unable to attend the daytime workshops. An overview of the information gathered during the day was shared and those in attendance had a second opportunity to ask questions and express their opinions.

“We are extremely grateful to the residents of our community who attended these meetings because we value their opinions and welcome their input,” said Dr. Bonuso.

As a follow-up to these workshops, Dr. Bonuso and the EFPC have scheduled two additional meetings on Thursday, Jan. 30 and Tuesday, Feb. 25, both starting at 5:30 p.m. in the Pierson library, to further enable community residents to ask questions and share ideas. Residents unable to attend may contact Dr. Bonuso’s office directly. For additional information regarding the project timeline, visit the district’s website.
